Conant sweeps at Oswego East
Conant made a long road trip Saturday to play its first two of five games in five days.
The Cougars hope the next three games — all home at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday — go the same way as Saturday.
Conant (3-0) swept a doubleheader at Oswego East 2-1 and 10-3 with junior ace Briana Cavin, a Wisconsin-Green Bay recruit, getting both wins.
The Wolves are coached by Danielle Finke, a former Conant softball player.
“Danielle is doing a real nice job with that program,” said CathyAnn Smith, who coached the former Conant three-sport athlete.
Briana Cavin struck out 10 and threw a 2-hitter in Game 1 as the Cougars scored both runs in the second inning.
Briana Cavin started the rally with a one-out single, then went to second on freshman Rachel O’Malley’s sacrifice bunt.
Sophomore Miranda Cavin singled home her sister for a 1-0 lead. Senior Paige Ward added an RBI single for the second run.
Senior Kailee Prasbrig collected 3 hits in the game while each Cavin sister had 2.
In Game 2, Briana Cavin (3-0) pitched 4 innings to get the win while junior Shannon O’Conner worked the final two innings and did not give up a run.
Briana Cavin (4 hits) and Miranda Cavin (2 hits) each had a triple and Prasbrig once again had 3 hits.
