Cancelli produces for Mundelein

Another Cancelli looks prepared to make an impact in a varsity sport for Mundelein.

Freshman Kaila Cancelli had a goal and 2 assists, as the Mustangs’ soccer team defeated host Crystal Lake Central 5-2 in a nonconference game Saturday to improve to 2-0.

Cancelli is the younger sister of Aarika, who also plays on the varsity. Her two older brothers were also Mundelein athletes, as was her dad.

Kaila Cancelli scored the Mustangs’ first goal, off an assist from Ashley Begrowicz.

Begrowicz had a goal and 3 assists, while Abbey Ekstrom scored twice. Nathalie Mathis tallied Mundelein’s fifth goal.

The Mustangs enjoyed a 3-1 lead at halftime.

“We looked good,” coach Dave Ekstrom said. “It was nice to play on a nice field.”

Mundelein hosts Larkin at 5 p.m. Monday.
