Western benefit April 10 to help local girl fighting cancer

Come experience the charm of the Old West at a dinner benefit for Shelby Bohlin to be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 10 at Donley's Wild West Town in Union.

The 8-year-old East Dundee resident has been battling acute promyelocytic leukemia, a cancer of the blood, since October 2009. Shelby has undergone multiple rounds of intense chemotherapy at Loyola University Medical Center, has been hospitalized 12 times, continues to face daily chemotherapy, and has regular bone marrow testing. Without treatment, her cancer is fatal.

The western themed benefit includes a pasta dinner, cash bar, children's games, raffles, and a silent auction. To support Shelby and her family, guests can attend the event for $30 per person, $15 for children aged ten and under. Walk-ins are welcome. All proceeds will be donated to the Shelby Grace Bohlin Fund to offset the overwhelming expenses associated with cancer. Please email nrjacobsen@comcast.net for details and to register.

Cancer has deeply affected the family, including her older sister and younger brother. Her father, Shawn Bohlin, works for a non profit organization. Her mother, Lisa (Mach) Bohlin, cares for Shelby at home. Come out and support this local family.

Direct donations to support the family can be sent to the Shelby Grace Bohlin Fund at Harris Bank.
