U-46 school news for week of March 21
On Monday, the U-46 Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. in Room 140 at the Educational Services Center located at 355 E. Chicago Street in Elgin. The public is welcome to attend and provide citizen comments to the school board at the open meetings. Streamwood High School: On Thursday, SHS choral students will present their Spring Choral Concert at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Admission is $1 per student, $2 per adult, and $6 per family. Senior citizens 62 and over may attend for free if they show proof of age.
Kenyon Woods Middle School: On Tuesday, feeder elementary school orchestra students from Clinton, Fox Meadow, Garfield, Liberty, Nature Ridge, Wayne and Willard will present a concert at 7 p.m. at South Elgin High School. Guest artists will include some small ensembles from Kenyon Woods. Admission is $1 per student, $2 per adult, and $6 per family. Senior citizens 62 and over may attend for free if they show proof of age.
On Thursday, the Spring Dance will be held at the school from 6-8 p.m.
Larsen Middle School: On Tuesday, band students will present their Spring Concert at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Admission is free.
Creekside Elementary: On Monday, Kindergarten Registration will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the school located at 655 N. Airlite St. in Elgin. This is a pre-registration and orientation for the parents of incoming kindergartners. For further information, please call 847-289-6270.
Harriet Gifford Elementary: On Thursday, the school will have their Nick's Pizza event from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Patrons must bring the appropriate flyer to the restaurant in order to receive a profit for the school.
Hawk Hollow Elementary: On Tuesday, Jump Rope for Heart will take place during school hours. Students will participate in heart-healthy activities in the gym, such as high jumps, basketball relays, and jumping rope. Money raised by the school goes to the American Heart Association.
Lincoln Elementary: On Wednesday, Family Math & Reading Night will be held at the school from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Guest readers include Dr. José Torres, U-46 superintendent, and Wilma Valero, director of ELL programs.
Lowrie Elementary: On Friday, students will participate in a PBIS celebration. They are encouraged to wear shirts with college names on them to go along with No Excuses Universities and the spring break theme. The students will also be attending a science assembly in the afternoon.
Otter Creek Elementary: On Wednesday, the school will present a Talent Show at 7 p.m. at the school. This program gives the student body an opportunity to show off some wonderful talent. This year there will be over 25 acts involving over 50 students. The talent show includes singing, dancing, gymnastics, piano playing, magic, comedy, yo-yo stunts, and karate. It provides such a positive energy from both students and their families. We are excited to extend the love for fine arts by having the talent show each year.
In other news: The U-46 Elementary Art Show will begin with a reception on Wednesday, March 23 from 5-7 p.m. at First Community Bank, 50 Tyler Creek Plaza in Elgin at the intersection of McLean Blvd. and Big Timber Rd. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The visual arts exhibit continues through April 13.
