Dolezal, Barrington handle Deerfield

Senior pitcher Kiley Dolezal was perfect for 3 innings as Barrington’s softball team kicked off its own eight-team Spring Fling with an 11-1 five-inning victory over Deerfield at the Fields of Dreams on Monday.

Dolezal finished with 4 strikeouts and no walks in four innings to notch her first win of the season.

Barrington junior Emma Woods retired three straight batters in the top of the fifth inning before the Fillies won in the bottom half of the inning.

Senior Elizabeth Owen’s single to center with two outs brought home junior Vasi Panos with the 11th run to end the game via the 10-run rule.

Moments earlier, the pinch-hitting Panos hit the first pitch of her varsity career for a double over the right fielder’s head with one out.

Fillies sophomore Loren Krzysko (2-for-4, 3 RBI) belted a 2-run homer in the second inning while teammates Owen (3-for-4, RBI), Kiersten Tinkoff (2-for-2, 2 doubles, RBI, 2 walks) and Tess Bolger (2-for-2, 2 RBI) were other multiple hitters. Junior Jordan Wekony also doubled for the Fillies.

In today’s 4:30 p.m. semifinals, Barrington will face Zion-Benton and Glenbrook North meets Warren.

Lake Zurich faces Maine West and Hersey meets Deerfield in the consolation semis, also at 4:30 p.m.

Warren posted a 7-0 win over Maine West, which received a 2-for-3 effort from sophomore Renee Pond, who doubled.

Warriors sophomore pitcher Ariel Valles struck out eight and did not walk a batter.
