Lubin, Moons, Roberts and Weisberg for Dist. 125 board

Daily Herald Editorial Board

Incumbents Bruce Lubin, Terry Moons and Merv Roberts have helped keep Stevenson High School District 125 in enviable shape both financially and academically.

With his business experience and his support of the district’s current academic direction, newcomer David Weisberg would be an excellent choice for the fourth open seat.

Challengers Kim Brady and Kathy Powell bring up concerns about district finances but offer little in specifics beyond targeting the state-mandated driver education program. The third member of their slate, Charles Cardella, supports more aggressive staff cuts and instituting merit raises for teachers.

While these are worthwhile topics to explore, we have concerns that the challengers’ focus on curriculum — particularly a parental advisory committee — may not be helpful in advancing academics at Stevenson.
