Christ Church member joins TV show on gardening

Christ Church United Church of Christ in Des Plaines heartily congratulates Allison Goodman, church council member, co-founder of Players for Christ, and gardener.

Allison has been invited to join The Fabulous Beekman Boys on Planet Green TV, as an Official Beekman Heirloom Gardener Deputy. She is the winner for Zone 5 in a nationwide search for master gardeners. The reality television show is teaming up with Williams-Sonoma to help create the world's largest community garden.

Allison has been growing vegetables for 6 years. The Christ Church Sunday School kids learned about gardening last year, when Allison, members of the education department, and the kids started a container garden using swimming pools in the church parking lot. The purpose was to bring a love of gardening and fresh produce to the children. Curriculum for summer Sunday school was built to coincide with the garden. The garden was a big success. The congregation was delighted to receive the weekly offerings of veggies like tomatoes, peppers, and basil.

Allison has developed her own blog: agirltwogardensandafarm.weebly.com. This summer she will write about all her gardens, including our church garden.

The second season of the Fabulous Beekman Boys will premier on March 22.
