No change needed on Stevenson High school board

Every day I listened to the news and heard about the heated race for mayor of the city of Chicago. However, in our own community, we have an approaching election that certainly deserves our full attention: the upcoming District 125 school board election. On April 5, 2011, we have the opportunity to elect four school board members.

I've lived in this community for 20 years and have three children who have attended Stevenson High School. I am proud to say my children are very successful and two of them have already graduated from college with honors and are employed in their respective career choices. My youngest is a junior in college and is working at an internship in her desired field.

I attribute much of their success to the education they received at Stevenson High School. They entered college extremely well prepared and continued to soar. Stevenson is the only public high school in Illinois to win four U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon awards and 98 percent of Stevenson graduates pursue degrees in higher education. These are astounding facts which are truly impressive.

We have a current school board that has proved leadership and success. Why change? (Remember) the adage, “if it isn't broken, why fix it?” The District 125 school board is far from broken.

I strongly encourage our community to support the incumbent school board members and allow them to continue their outstanding service and excellence.
