A spot of tea?
The College of Lake County hosts its new “Teapots: An Invitational” exhibit through Tuesday, April 19. See 36 diverse interpretations of the teapot from a number of contemporary ceramic artists in the United States. Runs through Tuesday, April 19, at the College of Lake County's Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake. Exhibit hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fridays; 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Note: Hours vary during spring break from Monday to Sunday, March 28-April 3. Free admission. Patrons should enter through the C-wing and proceed toward the Library/Learning Resource Center. Model railroad open house
The Lake County Model Railroad Club hosts its Early Spring Open House. See the club's HO scale permanent operating model railroad in a 30-by-60-foot room, occupying more than 1,500 square feet. The railroad uses the latest digital technology to operate and simulate railroad activity. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, at the Lake County Model Railroad Club, 107 S. Main St., two blocks north of Route 176, Wauconda. Admission is free. Individuals who bring an item for donation to the Wauconda Food Pantry will receive a free raffle ticket for a door prize. National Pig Day celebration
Brookfield Zoo celebrates National Pig Day on Saturday, March 5, with pig-related festivities for all ages. The party begins in the children's zoo's big barn with the singing of “Happy Pig Day,” as the zoo's newest residents, 6-month old American guinea hogs Maple and Honey, are given a cake. Then zoo guests can take part in a parade led by the pink Pigmobile. Other events include pig-themed activities like mud play and a scavenger hunt. Jeremy Babcock of The Dreamtree Shakers from the Old Town School of Folk Music will present a concert in the Hamill Family Play Zoo. 1 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Brookfield Zoo, at First Avenue and 31st Street, Brookfield.
