Rolling Meadows H.S. flags team going to state

The Rolling Meadows High School Winter Color Guard competed in the TeamDance Illinois contest at Stevenson High School Sunday, Feb. 6, with outstanding results.

In the Lyrical Tall Flag category, Rolling Meadows High School earned the highest technical score and took third place.

In addition, the score of 91 earned the group a state contest qualification for that routine.

In the Short Flag category, the Rolling Meadows High School squad earned the highest artistic score and tied for first-place overall with Stevenson. In addition, the placement and score combination of 86.8 earned that routine a state qualification, as well.

The Lyrical Flag routine is performed to the song “Glitter in the Air” by Pink. It uses lavender dresses and shimmering pink flags that enhance the dance and flag choreography. The Short Flag routine is performed to the song “Your Call,” by Secondhand Serenade. The squad members wear simple light blue dresses that are accented by blue, cream, and tan flags. These all work in tandem with the complex drill maneuvers, intricate flag choreography and dance.

The award-winning Rolling Meadows High School Winter Color Guard is made up of the following team members: Desdemona Alvarez, Christina Crusius, Angela Grande, Lisa Kawalek, Bokyung Kim, Ruth Livi, Kelsey O’Shields, Amanda Vo and Christine Wurster. Christopher Buti is head coach.
