Stop by Canterbury School Literacy Fair Feb. 24

Support local education and literacy by attending the Canterbury Elementary School PTO Literacy/Book Fair from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 at Barnes & Noble, 5380 Route 14, Crystal Lake.

The event has two goals. First, the Canterbury PTO Reading Incentives Committee has been hosting one event a month this school year to promote literacy at school. The following activities on Feb. 24 at Barnes & Noble will further our goal of encouraging our students to read.

9:30-10 a.m.: Morning storytime - Duck at the Door and duck puppet craft

2-2:30 p.m.: Afternoon storytime - Eric Carle books and butterfly craft

4-5 p.m.: Percy Jackson Trivia Contest - Are you a true fan?

4:30-5:30 p.m.: Bookmark Craft with Mrs. Thomas

5-5:30 p.m.: American Girl Tea - Bring a doll and discuss your favorite stories over lemonade

5:30-5:45 p.m.: Fourth-grade Recorder Concert

5:45-6 p.m.: Fifth-grade Guitar Concert

6-7 p.m.: Spanish storytime - led by Mrs. Mortiz, Mrs. Mosquera and Mrs. Guerrero

6-7 p.m.: Barnes & Noble Literacy Games - Challenge your friends in the café.

7-7:30 p.m.: Bedtime stories with Mrs. Alt - Wear your PJs and bring your favorite stuffed animal.

7:30-8 p.m.: Literacy Showcase - Students read your original short stories, poems, etc.

The second goal is to raise funds for literacy initiatives at Canterbury. The PTO will receive a percentage of any purchases made at Barnes & Noble on Feb. 24 if individuals present the store with a copy of the Canterbury PTO Book Fair Flyer.

If you cannot attend the book fair, but would still like to support Canterbury PTO by shopping online, visit BN.COM/bookfairs from Feb. 24-28 and enter Bookfair ID 10407898 at checkout. You can also forward this ID number to friends and family in other cities and states. Purchases made at any Barnes & Noble will be credited to the Canterbury PTO if the individual enters the ID online.

Vouchers for the book fair can also be found on the Canterbury School website at www.d47.org/can/. Vouchers are required for any store purchases. For more information, please contact PTO representative Terri McHugh at (847) 361-6889.
