South Elgin co-op 2nd at New Trier

Senior Taeupae Wetterman and sophomore Liz DeLeon led the South Elgin co-op girls gymnastics team to a second-place finish at Friday night’s New Trier regional, leaving the Storm with a shot at an at-large spot as a team in next Thursday’s Niles North sectional.

South Elgin scored 128.825 points. Champion New Trier scored 139.825 to win the meet.

Wetterman won the floor exercise (9.125), finished third on vault and fifth on the balance beam, giving her a fourth-place finish in the all-around competition.

DeLeon was fifth on the bars and third on the beam. She and Wetterman will compete at sectionals even if South Elgin doesn’t make it as a team.
