School, city events canceled in advance
The canceling began well before a single snowflake hit the ground.
On Monday morning Geneva Middle School South canceled its Stellar Students breakfast, due to happen on Thursday, because of forecasts for an intervening blizzard. It will instead be held Feb. 10.
The Geneva school district also rescheduled the fifth annual “Educational Resource Fair for Parents of All Students: Beyond the Classroom” to Tuesday, Feb. 22.
It is not the only event being canceled well in advance.
Aurora: West Aurora School District 129 decided Monday afternoon to cancel all field trips and extracurricular activities today, including sports. Also, Marmion Academy will dismiss at 11:25 a.m. today and be closed Wednesday.Batavia: City Administrator Bill McGrath said city officials will wait until this morning to decide whether to cancel a city services committee meeting scheduled for tonight. Geneva, Aurora and North Aurora use Nixle.com to send text and e-mail messages to subscribers about weather, crime and traffic.North Aurora: The plan commission canceled its meeting tonight due the expected snow.Another matter: Find a place to stow your car other than an on-street space. In North Aurora, Batavia, Geneva, Elburn and Sugar Grove, it is prohibited once 2 or more inches have accumulated. In St. Charles, it is prohibited on certain snow routes at 2 inches and citywide once it gets to 3 inches. This is to make room for snowplows top do their thing. North Aurora has already sent out a Nixle message advising violators#146; cars will be towed away.U-46: A spokesman said Monday the district may cancel all after-school events today but that a decision will not be made until this morning.Parents will be notified if activities are canceled and if school on Wednesday is canceled via U-46#146;s rapid communication system, which automatically contacts parents by phone and e-mail.
