Loaded gun found in car in Buffalo Grove crash

Buffalo Grove police said they found a loaded handgun in a car that crashed at McHenry and Buffalo Grove roads after a short police chase that started in Mount Prospect Saturday afternoon.

Buffalo Grove Police Sgt. Mike Millett said Todd Briscoe, 45, of the 400 block of Forrest Avenue in Arlington Heights, was “severely DUI” when he grazed another car around 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of McHenry and Buffalo Grove roads. Briscoe was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights because of his state of intoxication, Millet said, not from injuries sustained in the crash.

Briscoe first caught the attention of Mount Prospect officers around 1 p.m. Saturday. Mount Prospect Sgt. Robert Smith said police received a call of a man sleeping in his Dodge Intrepid at Prospect Meadows Park near North Forest Avenue and Bob O Link Road, and a report of a weapon in the same car.

As an officer walked up to the Intrepid, Briscoe pulled away and failed to stop for a second officer, Smith said. The officers, who did not see a gun, followed Briscoe for several blocks, ending the chase at Euclid Avenue and Rand Road. A short time later, the Buffalo Grove accident was reported.

At the scene of the crash, Buffalo Grove police recovered a loaded .22 caliber handgun from the car. Briscoe faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon and driving under the influence, Millet said.

In Mount Prospect, Smith said charges are pending against Briscoe for fleeing and eluding police and multiple traffic violations.
