Roadway safety campaign continues in W. Chicago

The West Chicago Police Department announced that Campaign No. 2 of the Illinois Department of Transportation funded grant was successful in educating the motoring public on child restraint, seatbelt, speeding, and alcohol related violations.

The campaign ran from Dec. 17, 2010 to Jan. 2, 2011 and resulted in 138 citations being issued; 15 for seatbelt and child restraint violations, and 3 violations for driving under the influence.

Campaign No. 2 was the second of eight overall campaigns funded by the grant which runs through Sept. 30, 2011.

This grant provides sworn police officers funding for additional hours dedicated to traffic enforcement for child restraint, seatbelt, speeding, and alcohol related violations.

Campaign No. 3 will begin on Jan. 28 and run through Feb. 6. A continuing effort will be made citywide to make roadways safer by enforcing these violations and educating the public.
