5 arrested in Crystal Lake robbery; 1 suspect still at large
Five suspects have been arrested in a November armed robbery of a 20-year-old man near a Crystal Lake school; a sixth suspect still is at large.
Three suspects armed with knives and two others with handguns ordered the victim to the ground, then took his wallet and cannabis from his pockets on the evening of Nov. 14 outside South Elementary School, 601 Golf Road, police said.
Before the robbery, the victim had been contacted by an unknown female who wanted to meet him to purchase cannabis. When he agreed, he was robbed by the five individuals, all of whom were wearing masks, police said.
The unidentified female called from a phone belonging to Stephanie M. Calder, 18, of the 1000 block of Autumn Drive. She surrendered to police on Dec. 30, and was released after posting bond.
Calder and four other suspects who were taken into custody each face charges of aggravated robbery, theft from person and aggravated battery — all felonies. They were identified as Thomas J. Schomer, 17, of the 0 to 100 block of Lesley Lane; Justin MA Peters, 17, of the 400 block of Mary Lane; and Eric C. Chartrand, 17, of the 400 block of Highland Avenue.
Another teen police say was involved in the robbery, a 16-year old male resident of Crystal Lake, was not identified. He was sent to the Kane County Juvenile Detention Center.
The 17-year-olds currently are at McHenry County Sheriff's Adult Correctional Facility and bond for them has been set at $60,000 each. They are due in court Monday.
Meanwhile, police are looking for another suspect they say was involved in the armed robbery. Patrick J. Christy, 18, of the 2000 block of Willowbrooke Drive in Woodstock, remains at large. His bond is set at $100,000.
Anyone who may have information about Christy's whereabouts should call the Crystal Lake Police Department at (815) 356-3625.
