No injuries in Hinsdale house fire

No injuries were reported Monday afternoon in a laundry room fire that caused between $10,000 and $15,000 damage to a house at 545 E. Walnut St. in the northeast corner of Hinsdale, authorities said.

Firefighters said the blaze appeared to start in or near a dryer in the basement of the house.

A resident called firefighters about 12:10 p.m. and said her dryer was on fire. The dispatcher urged the woman to leave the house immediately.

Hinsdale firefighters said they arrived to find light smoke coming out the front door. Once inside, they were met with black smoke from the basement stairwell.

The fire was extinguished within minutes, authorities said. The cause has been deemed accidental, but the investigation is continuing.

Fire damage was limited to the laundry room, but there was smoke damage throughout the basement.

Firefighters from Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, Clarendon Hills, LaGrange Park, Western Springs, Tri-State and Pleasantview assisted Hinsdale crews.
