Need to apply for LIHEAP assistance?

State Rep. Fred Crespo (D-Hoffman Estates) is reminding residents that the application period for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Winter Heating Program is open.

“We're experiencing a very cold start to the winter season, during a time when many residents are struggling to simply get by,” Crespo said. “LIHEAP helps hundreds of thousands of low-income individual's heat their homes during cold winter months when heating costs can become a burden. Grants are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis, so those in need of this assistance should contact the Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County immediately.”

LIHEAP provides grants to low-income households to assist in paying gas and/or electric bills. Income restrictions vary based on size of household; for example, a family of four must not exceed a monthly income of $2,756. For income restrictions and details on obtaining LIHEAP assistance, visit the Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County Web page at cedaorg.net.

LIHEAP will accept applications for heating assistance through May 2011. To make an appointment, contact the association at (312) 456-4100. For more information, please contact Crespo's full time constituent services office at (630)-372-3340.
