RMHS girls name team of the week

The Chicago Sky of the Women's National Basketball Association has named the Rolling Meadows High School Girls' Basketball team as the High School Girls Team of the Week for the week of Dec. 15 for its excellence on and off the court.

The RMHS team is off to the finest start of the season in the past five years. The Mustangs were winless in conference the previous five seasons making the victories over Prospect High School and Fremd High School even more significant for the program.

Rolling Meadows won its first five games as part of the Mundelein Thanksgiving Tournament, also winning the tournament championship over Mundelein High School, the host. Off the court, each season the varsity team visits two local elementary schools and reads to students in kindergarten through third grade.

This year the players have spent time at Westgate Elementary and Kimball Hill Elementary schools. The players, accompanied by the school mascot and in uniform, promote reading and healthy life choices including exercise, eating healthy and avoiding drugs. The Rolling Meadows Girls Basketball Team will be provided a complimentary Team Night Out ticket package to a 2011 Sky regular season home game at Allstate Arena, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world's best female basketball players.

They will meet and talk to Sky players and coaches before the game and be honored on the Sky court during the game. They will also have the Sky experience brought to one of their home games.
