Firefighters bring in tankers to fight barn fire

Firefighters had to bring in water tankers to extinguish a fire in a rural area without fire hydrants Friday afternoon.

A one-story barn caught fire at 39W300 Bolcum Road in Campton Township at 3:24 p.m., and firefighters were able to bring it under control by about 4:15 p.m., according to a news release from the St. Charles Fire Department.

It's believed a welding operation may have started the fire and the cause is considered accidental, though the fire remained under investigation Friday, authorities said.

The barn owners were home at the time of the fire and called 911 to report it.

No injuries were reported.

Damage is estimated at $30,000 to the structure and $100,000 to the building's contents, which included several motorcycles.

A total of five departments responded to the fire.
