Junior Chargers tryouts this weekend

The Dundee-Crown Junior Chargers boys basketball program will hold tryouts on three dates beginning Saturday.

Tryouts are for sixth, seventh and eighth grade boys who plan to attend Dundee-Crown High School. All tryouts will be held in the Dundee-Crown field house and attendance at at least two of the tryouts is recommended.

Tryouts will be held Saturday from 1-3 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 8 from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 11 from 1-3 p.m.

There will also be a meeting for parents of potential players tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Dundee Township Park District Recreation Center on Illinois 68 in Carpentersville.

The program is also in need of a sixth-grade coach or coaches.

Jacobs baseball clinic: Jacobs High School will be holding its third annual youth baseball coaches clinic on Jan. 29, 2011. This is a free event that will feature a diverse lineup of baseball personalities and registration is open to all baseball coaches in the District 300 area. The featured speaker this year will be University of Illinois head coach Dan Hartleb.

The event will be held in the competition gym of Jacobs High School and will also feature Justin Stone, the head instructor at the White Sox Training Academy; Dan Puente, the Youth Baseball Initiatives Coordinator for the White Sox; and, Nate Metzger, the head baseball coach at Heartland Community College. Registration is at 7:30 a.m. and the program concludes at noon.
