Scouting Fenton boys basketball

Fenton

Coach: Dennis Cromer.

Last year: 11-18, 3-7, fifth in Metro Suburban Conference; lost 54-40 to St. Viator in Class 3A St. Viator regional final.

Top players: Dan Montano, sr., F; Rob Palumbo, sr., G; Will Payne, sr., C; Kyle Moriarty, sr., F; Zach Piotrowski, sr., G; Jeremy Shimanek, jr., F; Colin Wallace, jr., G; Dylan Fritz, jr., F; Adam Kadlec, jr., F; Jon Martin, jr., F.

Scouting report: The Bison have a great starting point in Montano, a talented inside-out threat who averaged 14 points and 7 rebounds last year. The problem, though, is that the 6-foot-3 forward is the lone returning starter. Inexperience and a lack of overall team size are concerns, as is the need to develop scoring options to take pressure off Montano. Cromer calls Palumbo, a point guard, the team’s most improved player. Moriarty and Payne, a post presence, are potential scoring options in addition to Piotrowski and Shimanek. This should be a good defensive team, though, so the Bison won’t necessarily have to put an offensively prolific lineup on the court. “I think we have the potential to be a very good defensive team,” Cromer said. “We’ll need to be good.”
