Teens deny BB gun shooting spree

A pair of Lake County teenagers pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges they went on a vandalism spree with a BB gun in the western part of the county.

Angel Camacho and Ramses Lopez-Herrera, both 18, face up to three years in prison if convicted of felony criminal damage to property.

Assistant State's Attorney Ari Fisz said the county sheriff's office received multiple calls about windows being shot out of houses and parked cars in Round Lake, Island Lake and Ingleside on the night of Oct. 5.

Some of the callers described a white Cadillac, and a radio alert was issued to all police departments in the area.

Fisz said Round Lake Beach police reported seeing the car, but it sped away before officers could force the driver to pull over.

Lake Villa police stopped the car a short time later, and Camacho, of the 2300 block of North Iroquois Lane in Round Lake Heights, and Lopez-Herrera, of the 200 block of Glenwood Drive in Round Lake Beach, were taken into custody.

Police found a BB rifle and supply of ammunition in the trunk, Fisz said.

Police say there are at least seven victims of the spree and the total of damages amount to less than $10,000.

The two told police they had been riding around shooting at random targets, Fisz said, but each blamed the other for the actual shooting.

Both are free after posting $5,000 for bond and are scheduled to appear in court Dec. 23.
