Grayslake Central opens with victory

Steve Ikenn waited a long time to become a head varsity girls basketball coach.

It didn't take long for him to notch his first win.

Grayslake Central used a balanced scoring attack to beat host Jacobs 78-32 Tuesday night, making Ikenn a winner in his debut on the Rams' bench.

Ikenn, a former longtime assistant coach at Stevenson, got 14 points from Rebekah Llorens, 13 from Alex Scarbro and 10 from Kat Dickson.

Roxy Acoff and Morgan Dahlstrom added 8 points each and Skyler Jessop had 7 for Grayslake Central, which led 17-8 after one quarter and 40-14 at halftime.

Libertyville 54, Prospect 37: Savannah Trees tied her career high of 25 points, as the Wildcats won their season opener.

Libertyville also received 10 points from Olivia Wilcox and eight from Nicole Kruckman.

Lake Zurich 40, Deerfield 30: Karlissa Skarb and Cathryne Spear each scored 8 points for the host Bears in their season opener.

Maisie Cox added seven for Lake Zurich.

Rolling Meadows 44, Carmel 33: At Mundelein, the winners were led by Jacqueline Kemph with 15 points and Morgan Keller with 10.

Carmel (1-1) got 18 points, including three 3-pointers, from Erin Quinn.

Highland Park 60, Grayslake North 46: At Mundelein, Emily Feldman scored 18 points, Lauren Evans added 17 and Lena Munzer tallied 13 for the Giants, who bolted to a 21-6 lead after one quarter.

Kaitlyn Woodward paced Grayslake North (1-1) with 10 points. Katie McGrath had seven.

Mundelein 72, Glenbrook North 62: On Monday night, the host Mustangs won their opening game in their own Thanksgiving tournament, outscoring the Spartans 25-7 in the fourth quarter, after trailing 55-47 after three.

Senior post Oliva Dunigan scored a career-high 27 points for Mundelein. Junior guard Amanda Davis added 17 and sophomore guard Becca Woit chipped in 12 for the Mustangs.

Senior guard Jodi Marver led Glenbrook North with 23 points. Lexy Cohn contributed 12.
