Crystal Lake man flips car during high-speed chase
A Crystal Lake man was arrested early Saturday after taking police on a high-speed chase while driving drunk with a flat tire, according to authorities.
Police said a concerned motorist called 911 at approximately 3:25 a.m. after seeing a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup traveling northbound at a high rate of speed on McHenry Avenue with a flat tire and no headlights on.
Responding officers attempted to pull over the driver, Russ M. Starks, 30, of the 500 block of Kensington Drive in McHenry, but the man sped up driving northbound on Walkup Avenue in an attempt to elude officers, according to police.
The man then lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an embankment on Crystal Lake Road at Kensington Drive in McHenry, causing the pickup to roll over, according to police.
Starks was transported to Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry and treated for injuries after the crash, according to authorities.
Upon his release from the hospital, he was charged with aggravated DUI, aggravated fleeing and eluding, speeding over 40 mph over the limit, driving with a suspended license and nine additional traffic offenses, according to police.
He was released from jail after posting $2,300 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 21.
