Plays presented this week at Fremd and Hoffman Estates high schools

Fremd High School brings to life the timeless enchantment of the magical fairy tale — “Cinderella” tonight through Saturday, Nov. 6, while Hoffman Estates High School presents a Shakespeare inspired work.

“Cinderella” includes all the hallmarks of Rodgers' and Hammerstein's originality, charm, and elegance. A total of 116 students, freshmen through seniors, are involved in the production, which opened Wednesday in the school's Kolze Auditorium, 1000 S. Quentin Road in Palatine. The performance begins at 7 p.m. each evening.

Tickets can be purchased at the door for $7.

Hoffman Estates High School, meanwhile, is presenting “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)” 7 p.m. Thursday Nov. 4 and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5-6 in the school's auditorium, 1100 W. Higgins Road.

“The Works” has been referred to as the “Marx Brothers” mixed with “Scrubs” mixed with “Romeo and Juliet,” “Hamlet,” and the rest of Shakespeare's best plays condensed into 97 minutes of hilarity with some insight into the minds of the actors as well.

“Othello” is performed as a rap, “Titus Andronicus” is a cooking show, the histories become a football game, and “Hamlet” includes audience participation to get to the essence of Ophelia's character.

The show is considered to be rated PG-13, and recommended for high school audiences and older. Tickets are available at the door for $7.
