Maine East Business Challenge coming Oct. 27

Maine East High School's chapter of DECA, an association of marketing students, is planning its annual Business Challenge for Wednesday, Oct. 27, but this year there is a new wrinkle.

The Illinois DECA vice president, Jinal Shah, a senior from Maine East, will be in attendance at the competition, where he will make the keynote speech and run leadership workshops.

“The Business Challenge is an event that encourages participants to solve business-related problems in a creative way["] said Dale Lasky, Maine East chapter adviser.

The competition will involve various role-plays in Sports Marketing, Retail Merchandising, Restaurant Management and Entrepreneurship.

Each contest participant also will be entered in the economics event. Winners of each category will receive trophies or medals.

Shah will help Maine East and Maine West students prepare for upcoming DECA events. Also, he will assist DECA members in learning about the great opportunities afforded by this organization.

Since 1946 DECA has filled the role of the premier student organization preparing high school and college students for careers in marketing, management and entrepreneurship.

Through DECA's program of activities, and partnerships with business and industry, students develop academic, leadership, communication, human relations, employability and civic responsibility skills.

DECA's activities and partnerships focus on local, state, national and international programs designed to encourage career exploration and recognize student achievement.
