Scouting Class 3A regionals

What to know: Top five teams and top five runners from non-qualifying teams advance to sectionals.

Hoffman Estates

Where and when: Busse Woods, 10 a.m. Saturday

What to watch: Top-ranked Schaumburg looks like a team on a mission. Seniors Britten Petrey, Colette Falsey, and Karen Lesiewicz lead the way. But junior Kelsey Steenstrup and sophomore Hannah Combs have helped to solidify the attack. Prospect sophomore Brooke Wolfe, Rolling Meadows senior Christina Gastfield, and Hoffman Estates junior Haley Goers will lead an impressive individual field.

Wheeling

Where and when: Heritage Park, 10:45 a.m. Saturday

What to watch: No. 2-ranked Palatine is not far behind top-ranked Schaumburg, and the Pirates are hoping to fine-tune their attack this weekend. Senior Courtney Brown, junior Emily Schulte and sophomore Tess Wasowicz lead Palatine. Keep an eye on freshman Jessica Lincoln, who took 24th in the MSL in her first varsity race. Sophomore Becca Batliner, junior Ella Tracy, and junior Alexa Argianas lead a Barrington team that seems to be peaking at the right time. Freshman Meghan Carroll took first to lead St. Viator to the East Suburban Catholic Conference title. Sophomore Kelly Breen leads a much improved Fremd squad, with senior Salena Clohisy leading Hersey.

Lake Park

Where and when: Lake Park East Campus, 10 a.m. Saturday

What to watch: York should be favorites after taking second in the West Suburban Silver. Sophomore Emma Fisher and junior Kayla Spencer lead the Dukes. Keep an eye on Lake Park sophomore Kaylee Flanagan; she has had a terrific season.
