State House District 44: Crespo
It's unfortunate that the race in Illinois House District 44 in western Cook County has centered so much around brutal attack advertising. Both state Rep. Fred Crespo, a Democrat from Hoffman Estates, and Streamwood Village President Billie D. Roth, the Republican, are able candidates with solid records.
While we admire Roth and have supported her in the past, Crespo wins our endorsement.
We have been impressed by the growth he's shown in office. Always a champion of education and an advocate for his Hispanic constituency, Crespo has stood up to party leadership, backed reform efforts and spoken out strongly against unnecessary spending and taxes.
