Till thrills as Lake Zurich rolls

Lake Zurich quarterback Zach Till had his best game of the season, passing for 225 yards and 3 touchdowns, all in the first half, to lead the host Bears past Mundelein 35-7 before a capacity crowd in a North Suburban Conference Lake Division football game on Friday night.

“The offensive line did great, Till said. “They were making huge holes on every play.

On the second play of the game, Till started the scoring barrage with a 63-yard touchdown pass to Tim Sayre.

“Till does a great job taking control of the offense and reading the defense, Sayre said. “Every play he knows what he is doing.

The Bears defense also played outstanding, holding Mundelein to only 80 yards of offense.

Mark Dorfman had an interception in the third quarter for Lake Zurich.

“Our defense has been outstanding all season, Bears coach Bryan Stortz said. “It's something that we take pride in, and our guys did a great job tonight.

The Bears improved to 7-1 and 4-1 in the NSC Lake, while Mundelein dropped to 0-8 and 0-5.

“Our kids came out and played very well, Stortz said. “We were able go get up early and take the wind out of (Mundelein's) sails a little bit, and I thought our kids played a very solid game.

Lake Zurich led 28-0 at halftime.

The Bears played without star running back Jacob Brinlee, who sat out with an ankle injury.

“The ankle feels pretty good, Brinlee said. “I really wanted to be out there tonight with all of the guys, but the coaches felt that sitting out tonight was something that needed to be done so that I can be ready for the playoffs.

Mundelein eluded the shutout as Bobby Mendel blocked a punt and recovered the ball in the end zone with 10 minutes left in the third quarter.

Mendel also recovered another fumble.

“The defense played very well in the second half, Mundelein coach Bob Stone said. “The block by Mendel was big, and we had two interceptions.
