LITH woman charged with battery, leading police on chase
Crystal Lake police arrested an 18-year-old woman Monday night after, authorities said, she attacked a mother and pregnant daughter before leading police on a short-lived car chase.
Jasmine R. Bates, 18, of Lake in the Hills, was arrested after police responded to a reported fight on the 200 block of Elmhurst Street about 9:30 p.m. Monday.
According to police, the first officer on the scene witnessed Bates leaving the parking lot at a “rapid pace" in a 1996 Chevy Corsica. The officer attempted to pull her vehicle over, but Bates took the officer on a chase down Route 176, police said. Bates then tried to avoid a traffic backup by driving across a lawn near Mistwood Lane but ended up crashing into a ditch at approximately 25 mph, said Crystal Lake Deputy Chief Eugene Lowery.
Police said Bates was staying with a 46-year-old mother and her pregnant 18-year-old daughter in Crystal Lake, and after an argument over money, attacked the two.
Police said the mother suffered a “pretty severe beating" and went unconscious during the attack.
Both the mother and daughter were treated at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry and released.
Bates was charged with four counts of domestic battery, aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, improper lane usage, speeding more than 40 mph over the limit, improper passing, driving off the roadway, reckless driving, and operation of an uninsured vehicle, according to police.
The domestic battery charges could be upgraded to aggravated battery after a review by the McHenry County state's attorney's office, Lowery said.
Bates is being held at the McHenry County jail on a $2,500 cash bond with an Oct. 19 court date.
