Missing father and son found safe in Bolingbrook
A Schaumburg father and his infant son who were reported missing earlier this week were safely located in Bolingbrook Friday morning.
Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said the 29-year-old father, and his 3-month-old son were discovered by Bolingbrook police about 8 a.m. Friday.
The man told police he was going to return home with his son Friday, Nebl said.
Someone in Bolingbrook saw the father's car and called Bolingbrook police, said John Pellettiere, the infant's uncle. The mother is “extremely relieved and happy, and the family is thanking the public and media.
No charges are pending since no crime occurred, Nebl added. Police have offered the family services from the department's social workers. No further information would be released, police said.
Pellettiere, the older brother of the child's mother, said the disappearance happened without warning.
He could not explain why it happened, saying it lacked “any plausible reason. There were no custody battles or problems at home, he added.
According to police, the father picked up his son from day care Wednesday to go to an appointment with the child's doctor. The doctor later called the child's mother and said they never showed up.
Pellettiere dismissed speculation that his brother-in-law, a Marine, suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder as an aftereffect of his overseas deployment.
“That isn't something the family has any expertise on, he said.
