Boys soccer, Lake County roundup

Heading into Wednesday's game at Vernon Hills, Lakes' boys soccer team needed to score at least 3 goals and not allow any to earn a berth in the North Suburban Conference championship game.

The Eagles nearly pulled it off.

Lakes won 3-1, which earned the Eagles a share of the NSC Prairie Division championship, but not a spot in the conference title game.

Lakes (7-8-5) and Round Lake tied for first place with identical 4-0-2 records in the division. Round Lake won the tiebreaker and will play Lake Division champ Warren at 4 p.m. next Tuesday in the NSC title game at Warren's Almond Road campus.

John Stanley scored off a Brian Werchek assist in the first half, as Lakes and Vernon Hills went into the break tied 1-1.

Tom Langbein scored the go-ahead goal, with Nathan McMahon assisting. Matt Whipple finished an Alan Johnson pass for an insurance goal for Lakes.

Vernon Hills (5-12-1, 1-4-1) got its goal from Evan Borden off an assist from Justin Moon.

Stevenson 1, Mundelein 0: Ben Lund scored the only goal in the North Suburban Lake makeup game.Ryan Crane assisted, while Quinton Low earned his seventh shutout for Stevenson (9-5-2, 3-2-1).Mundelein finished 2-3-1 in the NSC Lake.
