Addison Township official charged with DUI

Addison Township Highway Commissioner Richard Kaske was charged with drunken driving early Saturday in Villa Park.

Police said Kaske was in a car owned by the township, driving west on North Avenue with a flat tire when an officer spotted his car. Kaske made a wide right turn to head north on Yale Avenue, then another turn onto Wildfire Drive when his vehicle nearly drove off the road, according to police reports.

When the officer stopped Kaske, police reports say he smelled alcohol on Kaske's breath and noticed other erratic behavior. Kaske was arrested and taken to the Villa Park police station and his car was towed.

Kaske was later charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. He did not return calls Monday for comment. Officials would not say if Kaske submitted to a Breathalyzer test.

Kaske currently is free on an I-bond. Police said he is scheduled to appear in DuPage court in Wheaton at 9 a.m. Nov. 3.
