Scouting Schaumburg at Barrington

Schaumburg (4-1, 1-0) at Barrington (5-0, 1-0)

When: 2 p.m. Saturday at Barrington Community Stadium

Last week: Schaumburg d. Fremd 17-14; Barrington d. Conant 38-21

Outlook: A crisp fall Saturday afternoon should accentuate the November-type atmosphere this will have with 8A state-ranked teams in No. 7 Schaumburg and No. 10 Barrington. "It will almost feel like a playoff game," said Barrington coach Joe Sanchez, whose team has the 5 wins needed to be eligible for its seventh berth in nine years. "It's a great opportunity and great chance to taste this environment. It will be a lot of fun." And Schaumburg has had its share of them already with Maine South, Elk Grove and Fremd. "Naturally there tends to be some pressure on both sides going into games like this," said Schaumburg coach Mark Stilling. "But I think we're pressure-tested in these type of games." The challenge for the Saxons' defense led by Joe Zolper, Pat Felde, Josh Marchok and Bob Quilico will be even more sizable with Barrington's big line anchored by Dan Voltz, Pat Bolger and Jimmy Kristof leading the way for powerful RB Chase Murdock (740 yards, 10 TDs). Schaumburg will be looking to cut down the turnovers and penalties the last two weeks that have at times hampered its offense led by RB Shepard Little (991 yards, 8 TDs) and QB Mark Iannotti (612 yards, 7 TDs) against an opportunistic defense where DB Ben LeCompte has 4 INTs and has been a major factor in special teams. Barrington LB Alex Jirschele (hand) missed last week and questionable this week. Schaumburg's 21-9 win last year ended a seven-game losing streak in a series Barrington leads 15-8.
