Scouting Prospect at Rolling Meadows
Prospect (4-1, 1-0) at Rolling Meadows (3-2, 1-0)
When: 7:30 p.m. today at Robert A. Hoese Athletic Field
Last week: Prospect d. Hersey 48-7; Meadows d. Wheeling 41-14
Outlook: As has usually been the case in the last decade-plus there is a lot at stake in one of the area's best rivalries. Defending East champion Meadows won its second straight behind sophomore QB Jack Milas (431 yards, 8 TDs, 0 INTs), two-way threats Ryan Gundersen and Artie Checchin and the return of RB Garrett Peterson from a concussion. "(Milas) has a presence in the pocket that isn't sophomore-like," said Prospect coach Brent Pearlman. "He plays like an upperclassmen. I've seen nothing in that kid to think he's only started two varsity games." But Prospect continued to make things happen on the defensive end last week with TDs on Peter Bonahoom's fumble recovery and Dan Panicko's interception. "I think we're a long way from where we want to be defensively," said Pearlman, who is trying to become the 10th coach to win 100 games at an MSL school or schools. "But we went stretches last year where we wouldn't have pressure on the quarterback for three games. This team is going to get some people around your quarterback." Stopping the running duo of Bonahoom (669 yards, 8 TDs) and QB Steve Dazzo (560 yards, 8 TDs) has been a tough task for opponents. Meadows won last year's regular-season finale 46-38 in a series Prospect leads 20-18.
