Moose Jam SaturdayOn Saturday the Elgin Moose Family Center, 925 S. McLean Blvd. in Elgin, is hosting a fundraiser, "Moose Jam," for Mooseheart Child City and School from 7 to 11 p.m. This event is open to the public. Featured bands for the evening are Tricoustic, Fishippies, and special guest Kyle Knapp. There will be a cash bar. Tickets are $5, and can be purchased in advance or at the door. For information, call the Elgin Moose at (847) 741-0799.Life ChainsHundreds of Christians and their clergy will line the sidewalks at 2:30 p.m. Sunday along Routes 72 and 31 in West Dundee in solidarity with more than 1,200 Life Chains throughout the U.S. and Canada. During the hourlong event, participants will pray for an end to abortion while holding signs, which will be available near the west parking lot of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 845 W. Main St., West Dundee. For details, call Debbie Schmalen at St. Catherine of Siena at (847) 426-7326.Elgin High student gets awardJordan Crager, a student at Elgin High School, was selected recently as the first recipient of the Gunther "Jack" Weiss Travel Award. The $2,500 scholarship enabled Jordan to travel to Germany, Austria and Switzerland in July and August. The award is named for Gunther "Jack" Weiss, one of the first students who visited Elgin High School from Germany as part of an exchange program in the early 1950s. The scholarship, started by Weiss' son, Martin, is open to Elgin High School students studying German.Run for office in AlgonquinElection packets are now available for Algonquin village board candidates. Three, 4-year seats are up for election. Pick up a packet between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at village hall. For details, call (847) 658-2700.Fox River Grove packets readyNominating petition packets for Fox River Grove village trustee are available for pickup at the municipal center. There are three, 4-year seats and one, 2-year seat up for grabs. Petitions must be filed between Dec. 13 and Dec. 20. Filing closes at 5 p.m. Dec. 20. The municipal center is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
