Batavia takes out Sycamore

Batavia's volleyball team made it a happy homecoming with a 25-15, 25-20 victory over Sycamore Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs honored all of their alumni players, parents and coaches and had a special honoring of the 2005 varsity team for their fifth anniversary of winning conference and regional championships.

Bulldogs coach Lori Trippi-Payne said her team has played the Spartans for 15 years and this is just Batavia's third win, the others coming in 2005 and 2008. The Bulldogs improved to 17-3 and Sycamore fell to 9-5.

"Credit our serving, passing and defense to keep Sycamore's high powered offense off balance," Trippi-Payne said.

Batavia was led by Caitlin Piechota's 14 kills and 7 digs, Kristen Koncelik with 7 kills, 4 digs, 1 ace and 1 block kill, Mary Kate Bryant's 17 assists, 4 digs and 2 kills and Meghan Fabian's 2 aces and 4 digs.

Batavia will travel to IMSA for a tournament this weekend. The Bulldogs play at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., noon, and then the final round will be at 2:30 p.m., 3:30, and 4:30 if the Bulldogs get to the finals.
