Jacobs ready for Homecoming weekStarting Monday, Sept. 27, Jacobs High School in Algonquin will kick off Homecoming 2010.The theme for this year is "Jacobs in Wonderland." Throughout the week, students will be promoting this theme along with school spirit leading up to the football game Friday, Oct. 1 and the dance Saturday, Oct. 2.Various spirit week events include the homecoming parade, the annual pep assembly and the homecoming dance. On Thursday, Sept. 30, the parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Spella fields near the Algonquin Area Public Library and finish at the Jacobs' football field. Parade-goers are encouraged to stay and watch the girls volleyball, boys' soccer and the girls' final powder puff game at 6:30 p.m. at Jacobs High School.On Friday, Oct. 1, Jacobs will hold its annual pep assembly to excite the students for the game that evening. The Jacobs' varsity football team will play at the home stadium at 7:15 p.m. against Crystal Lake South.The homecoming dance will take place from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 at the school.Forensics team hosts bowling fundraiserMcHenry County College's Forensics Team will host a bowling fundraiser from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at Brunswick Zone, 1611 S. Randall Road, Algonquin.The event will feature two hours of unlimited bowling for $15 per person or $100 per lane for up to seven people, including shoes. MCC Forensics is an award-winning speech team focusing on performance of literature, platform speaking, and debate. Proceeds will go toward the speech team's trip to the national tournament in April in Greenwich, Conn.Sign up in person at the MCC Student Life office, Room A252 by Monday, Sept. 27, to receive a one-topping pizza and a pitcher of soda for your lane.Right to Carry forum set ThursdayResidents of McHenry and Lake counties are invited to attend a Right To Carry Forum from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, at the Lakemoor Banquet Hall, Route 120 and Darrell Road, Lakemoor.
