Scouting Warren at Mundelein

Warren (2-2, 0-1) at Mundelein (0-4, 0-2)

When: 7:30 p.m., Friday

Last week: Warren def. Wauconda, 42-0; Mundelein lost to Stevenson, 42-0.

Skinny: Warren and Mundelein have different records. But Warren coach Dave Mohapp sees a striking similarity between his team and the Mustangs. "We're two teams that haven't had the start we wanted," Mohapp said. "We're both teams that are working very hard to improve ourselves and our situations." - The Blue Devils took a huge step in the right direction last week against Wauconda. Warren not only got a shutout but was dominant on the offensive end with a relentless running game that rolled up 333 yards. "Our biggest problem early on was that our offense wasn't being as productive as we would like," Mohapp said. "In that Wauconda game, we were able to run the ball really well and that was good for us. I think that gave us some confidence." The Blue Devils got 107 yards and 4 touchdowns out of veteran running back Tom Lindal as well as 156 yards and 1 touchdown out of Nolan Sordyl. "Those two backs from Warren are really good," Mundelein coach Bob Stone said of Lindal and Sordyl. "But the other thing about that offense is that it's just so big. They've got some big guys on that line who are really physical. Defensively, we don't match up very well with that size." Stone says that the Mustangs are going to have to use their quickness to get around the blocks for Lindal and Sordyl. But, then again, they're used to that, having been out-sized in most matchups. "We've still been getting some great tackling out of guys like Bobby Mendel and John Devito," Stone said. "They're among our leading tacklers. They're just so intense and they're going hard on every play. They're so consistent and that's been great for the other guys on our team to see." - The relentless Devito also is one of Mundelein's top weapons on offense. He and D.J. Lewis get the most carries. "I've been real impressed with what I've seen (on film) of Mundelein because they play so hard," Mohapp said. "They're just so tough and they play so physical. They just don't give up, so nothing's going to come easy for us against Mundelein."... It's homecoming for Mundelein.
