Scouting Hoffman Estates at Palatine
Palatine (2-2) at Hoffman Estates (0-4)
When: 7:30 p.m. today at Dennis Garber Stadium
Last week: Hoffman lost to Rolling Meadows 28-0; Palatine lost to Prospect 41-27
Outlook: Both teams are looking to clean things up to start MSL West play. "My fear is they're going to get it together against us," said Palatine coach Tyler Donnelly of Hoffman. "Their kids play hard and fly around defensively, but the bottom line is we have to be focused on getting better." The Pirates are getting healthier with WR Nick McHugh and OL Layne Kirch returning, WR-DB Dan Haze now playing both ways and QB Cody Bobbit close to being able to return to defense and punting. Hoffman has committed 16 turnovers the last three weeks but QB David Gutierrez returns after sitting last week since he was banged up and coach Bill Helzer went to junior Mike Stanford last week to try to spark the offense. "Now we have the greatest show on turf," Helzer said of facing Bobbit, Jim Smearman and crew. "But it doesn't matter who we're playing. We have to fix us." Palatine has won three straight and five of six in a series it leads 13-9.
