Maine East sets stage for Marvel-ous homecoming
Superheroes will reign supreme during Maine East Homecoming Week 2010, as the Park Ridge high school makes Marvel, of Marvel Comics fame, the theme of its Homecoming festivities from Oct. 4-8.
The fun will begin on Monday with an after-school faculty Baggo tournament and soccer game pitting students against faculty. Monday also will be designated as Pajama Day, meaning students will go to classes decked out in their favorite pajamas.
Tuesday is "Color Wars" Day, with freshmen wearing yellow, sophomores purple, juniors green, seniors black and faculty members white.
A hallway decorating contest will be judged before school on Tuesday, while a dodgeball tournament and faculty Baggo tournament will provide the after-school highlights.
Wednesday is "Wacky Wednesday," and students are urged to dress in "the most ridiculous clothes" they own. Wednesday evening's big event is the Powder Puff football game, at 7 p.m. in the stadium.
Thursday will not be just any Thursday; it will be "Superhero Thursday," with students attired as their favorite Marvel superheroes. Thursday evening festivities will begin with the Fine Arts Pasta Dinner from 5-7 p.m. in the student cafeteria. The varsity soccer team plays a 7 p.m. match, followed by the popular Firelight Rally and crowning of the Homecoming Court.
The week will wrap up with "Blue and White Spirit Day" on Friday. Students will be sporting their Blue Demons spirit wear.
The Homecoming Parade will step off after the sophomore football game, and Homecoming Week will wrap up with a varsity football game.
