Nelson's great as Mundelein wins own invite

Eric Nelson's 68 was great.

The Mundelein senior was the lone golfer to break 70 at Steeple Chase Golf Club on Saturday, as his 4-under-par score led the host Mustangs to victory in their own tournament.

Mundelein shot a 287, well ahead of runner-up Lake Forest (308) and third-place Grayslake Central (308) in the eight-team field.

Nelson and teammate Grant Heelan (71) finished 1-2 and got support from Sean Forsythe (73, fifth) and Eric Steagall (75, seventh).

The top 10 also included Grayslake Central's Eric Hogenkamp (72, third), Lake Forest's Jack Hermes (73, fourth) and Quincy Coulter (74, sixth), Grayslake Central's Cody Stover (76, eighth) and Huntley's Ryan Craig (ninth) and Mason Wicks (10th), who carded matching 78s.
