Arlington Heightsbull; Martha Ocampo, 26, of the 500 block of North Quentin Road, Palatine, was arrested around 3 p.m. Sept. 10 at Kohl's, 800 W. Dundee Road, and charged with retail theft. Reports said she took two pairs of children's jeans, four bras, a pair of children's shoes and a bottle of cologne. She entered the store with her child in a stroller and hid the items in her purse and in a diaper bag in the stroller. Value was estimated at $263. Her court date is Oct. 14. bull; A man stole $5,800 from an Arlington Heights resident around 5 p.m. Sept. 9. The male victim received a phone call from the thief, telling him a bank was in trouble and needed money. The offender convinced the victim to meet him with the money at the Arlington Heights Library, 500 N. Dunton Ave. He told the victim the money was a loan, and the bank would deposit the money back into his account. The offender was described as an overweight white male with gray and white hair and mustache.bull; Burglars broke into a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta on the second floor of the village parking garage, 155 E. Eastman, between 1:30 and 8:30 a.m. Sept. 9 and stole the in-dash stereo valued at $1,400. Grabowski, 24, of the 2200 block of South Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights, was arrested just before midnight Sept. 10 and charged with battery to a police officer and resisting arrest. Reports said officers found him passed out in a car on the 500 block of West Courtesy Lane, and when he came to, he swore at them and punched one of the officers in the right shoulder twice. His court date is Oct. 10.bull; A taxicab driver stole a gold necklace with medallion from a 27-year-old man who got lost in Des Plaines around 10:20 a.m. Sept. 11. He asked the taxi driver how to get to O'Hare International Airport. The driver told the victim to follow him, but demanded collateral for his $25 fee. The man paid the taxi driver $25 when they got to the airport, but the offender drove off with the necklace valued at $150.bull; Thieves stole $7,500 out of a home on the 1700 block of South Orchard Street between 5:30 p.m. Sept. 9 and 5:30 p.m. Sept. 10.bull; Thieves stole two tires and rims from a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo in a business lot at 1011 E. River Road between Sept. 10 and 14. She selected a printer valued at $150 and other items that had been purchased earlier and for which she had a receipt. She presented that receipt at the customer service counter to get a refund for the items she did not purchase. bull; Burglars stole a garage door remote valued at $50 out of an unlocked 2006 Toyota Camry in a driveway on the 1200 block of West Sturbridge Drive between 8:30 p.m. Sept. 8 and 7:30 a.m. Sept. 9.bull; A vandal shot a BB-gun pellet that put a hole in a glass panel on an exterior light at a home on the 600 block of Wainsford Drive between 5 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sept. 8. Damage was estimated at $15. A few weeks earlier, someone shot a pellet into a double pane window on the house.Mount Prospectbull; Elizabeth L. Sullivan, 52, of the 100 block of North Warrington Road, Des Plaines, was arrested around 12:25 p.m. Sept. 14 at Dominick's, 1042 S. Elmhurst Road, and charged with local ordinance retail theft. Reports said she hid food items valued at $64 in a canvas bag, paid for other items but not for the merchandise in the bag. Her court date is Oct. 12.bull; Richard E. Harms, 57, of the 8600 block of South Kingston Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 10:40 a.m. Sept. 4 at Menards and charged with felony retail theft. Reports said he stole three drill bits valued at $69. He has a previous conviction for retail theft and a two-year prison sentence for the crime; he was recently paroled, reports said. His court date is Sept. 28.bull; Susan E. Malinak, 28, of the 300 block of Maplewood Court, Schaumburg, was arrested around 4:20 p.m. Sept. 11 at Kohl's, 1500 S. Owen, Sept. 13 or 14. Damage was estimated at $200.bull; Four men stole 165 DVDs valued at $3,000 from Walmart, 930 Mount Prospect Plaza, Rand and Central roads, around 8:55 a.m. Sept. 13. They picked up shopping baskets loaded the DVDs and fled through the west fire exit. An alarm sounded but they disappeared before officers arrived. Security videotapes showed the men enter, grab the DVDs and leave. A store security agent recognized them as subjects who have committed thefts in the past.bull; Burglars stole a laptop computer, black leather carry-on bag and pen out of an unlocked 2009 Nissan Maxima in a golf course lot at 700 W. Maple St., reached inside and stole a purse from under the front passenger's-side seat. Garnica, 27, of the 0-100 block of Eighth Avenue, Arlington Heights, was arrested around 8:40 a.m. Sept. 10 at Woodfield Shopping Center and charged with criminal damage to property after he stopped behind a motorist on Woodfield Road and West Frontage Road. Reports said Garnica got out of the Jeep he was driving and pounded on the trunk lid of the victim's 2008 Chevrolet Corvette. Damage was estimated at $2,000. His court date is Oct. 4.bull; Emily Marie Marzano, 19, of the 300 block of West Willow Road, Prospect Heights, was arrested around 2:45 p.m. Sept. 10 at Macy's in Woodfield Shopping Center and charged with retail theft. Her court date is Oct. 18.bull; Jesus Rodriguez-Banuelos, 22, of the 900 block of Grand Canyon Parkway, Hoffman Estates, was arrested around 12:05 a.m. Sept. 6 on Roselle Road at Schaumburg Road and charged with illegal transportation of open liquor, driving under the influence and a traffic violation. Reports said he threw a beer bottle at a 51-year-old Wheeling man that hit the victim's car in a store lot at 11 W. Dundee Road after being refused a ride by a man and his wife. His court date is Oct. 4.
