Scouting Wheeling at Barrington
Wheeling (1-2) at Barrington (3-0)
When: 6:30 p.m. today at Barrington Community Stadium
Last week: Wheeling lost to Palatine 37-23; Barrington d. Hersey 35-14
Outlook: Barrington coach Joe Sanchez knows this game is much tougher than it may appear as Wheeling led Conant most of the way in a 13-10 loss and then led 23-21 in the second half last week behind QB Tyler Brady, RB Eddie Scanlon and a solid crew of skill players. "One of the biggest things we've noticed is their record is certainly deceiving," Sanchez said. "They very easily could be 2-1 and maybe even 3-0." Now Wheeling tries to enter the East at .500 in what is literally a big test against the Broncos' power running game of Chase Murdock and linemen Dan Voltz and Pat Bolger and crew, while QB Matt LeMire threw for 3 TDs. "Our guys are working hard and get that sense that they're right there," said Wheeling coach Dave Dunbar. "Going up against the big boys on the West side, they're just tough, but we haven't backed down and are playing tough play after play." Barrington continued its early trend of making defensive plays as Ben LeCompte had 3 of last week's 4 interceptions. The Broncos, who have won seven straight in a series they lead 18-9, also got RB Nico Martinez back from injury last week as a slashing change of pace with J.L. Etienne.
