Prospect extends MSL streak in Mick of time
Emily Mick was a freshman the last time Prospect's girls golf team lost a Mid-Suburban League dual or triangular meet.
Tuesday, at the Mount Prospect Golf Course, Mick played a key role in the Knights extending their streak to 35 straight winning conference meets as she shot a 41 to pace a 271-280 victory over Barrington.
The visiting Fillies (8-1) were actually the last team to defeat Prospect (9-0) in a league dual meet in 2007.
"It's especially nice since it's my senior year (to top Barrington)," said Mick, whose round included a pair of pars and a birdie on the par-4 eighth hole.
"Emily has been consistent all season for us," said Prospect coach Jim Hamann. "And I have a lot of confidence in her.
"Our goals are set real high. Any time you can beat Barrington it's a real honor and something to be proud of. We have higher goals for conference and state. We are looking to make some noise."
The Knights made their score of 171 complete with a 42 from senior Rachel Lawless and 44s from junior Christine Garmoe and freshman Kiley Walsh.
Barrington was led by Casey Hahn's 41, followed by Laura Palarz (41), Kelly Muskat (45) and Sammy Carman (53).
"Our score (180) is a little high for us," said Barrington coach Jodi Schoeck. "This is a placement course and we had some out-of-bounds shots. That makes your score go up pretty quickly.
"But we battled out there. This a tough matchup and an emotional one. The girls really battled and showed a lot of spunk out there. Now we must circle the wagons for Thursday and get ready for Fremd and Buffalo Grove (at Bonnie Dundee in Carpentersville).
Fremd will be coming off a 189-201 triumph over Palatine on Tuesday as the Vikings' Madison Zyer earned medalist honors with a 45 on the par-36 Palatine Hills layout.
Zyer was followed by teammates Angie Kim (47), Christiana Kim (49) and Lauren DeBellis (48).
Alexis Bauer (47), Kristin Schmidt (51), Sally Ploch (51) and Alyx Ballenger (52) led the Pirates.
