Dist. 211 texts ignore values, at our peril

Great reports written by 1st Lt. Spartz from Afghanistan, especially the most recent on his analysis of the Spartans versus our very own Army personnel. The Army trains the body as well as the mind. Every soldier needs a moral compass that includes Army core values: loyalty, duty, respect, service, honor, integrity and courage.

However, the foundation of these values are inculcated at home and during the high school years.

The D211 schools do not appear to have books for the students that include core values, instead the emphasis is on desensitization to sex, violence and illegal immigration. My son's reading books were very poor choices, but my complaints fell on deaf ears.

There seems to be a movement to dictate a program that overemphasizes race, but ignores patriotism. It is training in a vacuum that students believe in precious little except that this country is not very good.

Can a student at D211 discuss the pros and cons of the mosque in New York? I doubt it. At this rate, will we continue to have soldiers in our military like Spartz? Not likely. If not, then what is the long term outcome?
