Trying for high-five record in Hoffman Estate

With the help of volunteers from Hoffman Estates High School, the Northwest Special Recreation Association will try to break the record for "Most High Fives in an Hour" and get into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Flash, the mascot for the group that provides recreational opportunities for people with disabilities, will give high fives to students in the high school football stadium.

The event will start about 1:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10. It will be called Lend A Hand to emphasize that the organization needs volunteers.

The current record was set by Boaz Frankel, who high-fived 408 people at the Pioneer Courthouse Square in Portland, Ore., Oct. 23, 2006.

The association is an extension of 17 park districts in the Northwest suburbs.
