Golfers hit the links at youth golf outing

Fore!-ty golfers ages 6 to 16 hit the Lake Park links on Wednesday, Aug, 11 for the seventh Annual Des Plaines Optimist Club Youth Golf Outing. The free event began with a 10 a.m. shot gun start and each player received a sleeve of new golf balls, tees, and a choice of a golf-related prize. Play continued on the par three, 18-hole course, and concluded with a hot-dog lunch.

On holes three (55 yards) and 11 ( 64 yards), the Optimists set up a Closest to the Pin Contest. John O' Fluherty came closest to the pin on hole 3 and Aidan Megally came within two feet of the pin on 11. The two winners each received a new putter from the Optimist Club.

The Des Plaines Optimist Club raises money for youth activities through their sales of Christmas trees during the month of December. Their mission is to sponsor fun, educational activities and outings and have been doing so since 1919. This past summer The Des Plaines Optimists also sponsored a fishing derby and Friday Night Movies at the Lake.

The next event at Lake Park will be Fall Fest, Sept. 17-19. A three-day family friendly festival including live entertainment, carnival rides, booths, and games, food and drink, a car show, baggo, a country fair tent, and a fishing derby.
