Scouting Rolling Meadows at Fort Wayne Wayne

Rolling Meadows (7-3) at Fort Wayne Wayne (1-0)

When: 4 p.m. Saturday

Last year's Meadows opener: Rolling Meadows d. Dyett 48-0

Last week: Wayne d. Fort Wayne Harding 31-12

Outlook: The concerns for Meadows start with a four-hour, 240-mile trip to open its season while Wayne, which was 7-5 last year, has already worked out the opening kinks since Indiana starts its schedule a week earlier. "That's a big difference," said Meadows coach Doug Millsaps. "We can do some things that can hurt them if we're consistent and our kids have historically played well in openers." Wayne forced 8 turnovers in its opener with Jaquavius Allen and Jerry Washington returning INTs for scores and Miquael Banks and Tyrell Jones lead the running game. "They're big and fast," said Millsaps, who made the trip to the opener with his varsity and sophomore staff. "They'll run a 3-5-3 (defensively) and some spread and a tight-I (formation offensively)." The Generals also overcame a crazy offseason where they lost their head coach in a teaching shake-up and new coach Kyle Beauchamp didn't start working with the team until late July and didn't officially take over until early August. Meadows lost G Luciano Laterza for the season (shoulder) and Kevin Puleo will step in.
